Swedish alternative indie pop trio Miike Snow released their third full-length album “iii.” The album art, band’s signature of a colorful jackalope silhouette, on its own may instantly intrigue you.
Miike Snow resembles a lot of other well-known indie bands due to the alternative, slow melodies that they give off, similar to Incubus or The 1975.
“iii” is an album that the heaviest of heavy metal fans, the biggest pop fanatics, and anyone in between can listen to and thoroughly enjoy.
It features eleven tracks, one of them, titled “For U,” features popular British pop artist Charli XCX, best known for her participation on the songs “I Love It” by Icona Pop and “Fancy” by Iggy Azalea as well as her own song “Boom Clap.”
It’s filled with infectious beats and true indie vibes that you could instantly fall in love with. My personal favorite track off the entire album is without a doubt “Genghis Khan,” a song that will definitely grab you with the melody of the chorus.
Another personal favorite is the opening track “My Trigger,” which gives you a strong sense of how the rest of the album will sound in terms of musical content and genre.
The duet between vocalist Andrew Wyatt Blakemore and Charli XCX was also a highlight on the album, their voices blending together perfectly as the song combines both alternative indie and pop elements into one up tempo, beat driven melody.
One thing that might particularly grab you with this album is the bonus track at the end with a remix of their song “Heart Is Full,” featuring the hip-hop supergroup Run the Jewels. It gives the original track a twist by adding hip-hop heavy beats to its original alternative indie elements, and it proves itself to be a true standout track on the album versus a minor bonus.
Overall, Miike Snow’s album “iii” is a solid indie album that works hard to deliver the best lyrical and musical content by using as many instruments and effects as possible.
Though they may not be one of the bigger indie pop groups around in our world today, they are surely worth checking out.
