Fans of the T.V. show Gilmore Girls have been so excited in recent months thanks to the announcement of a reunion mini season. Well, I suppose that would actually be seasons since each episode is named after the seasons of the year: Fall, Winter, Spring and Summer.
These four new episodes will be 90 minutes each. They are being done not only to please their loyal fans, but also to correct the ending of a phenomenal show. Amy Sherman- Palladino was the creator and executive director for 6 of the 7 seasons. Unfortunately she left before ending the show the way she had planned it. Multiple people took turns writing the scripts throughout the seventh season of the show. The finale ended with the main characters, Loralei and Rory Gilmore, with incredibly vague futures. No fan wants to wonder how a show ends after it is over. This is why fans all over the world are thankful for this next chapter of Gilmore Girls. However, I am not.
I do not believe that even a writer as sensational as Amy Sherman- Palladino could fix the catastrophe that is the ending of the seventh season in just 360 minutes. There was too much damage and nothing was settled with the characters lives. The career path Rory chose would have left her unsure only one year after the show had ended due to her choice to take a short term job. Loralei’s relationship status is unknown, Rory is single which means we do not even have a man that she is leaning toward and to top it all off, when will Rory see her mother again? A revival is an absolutely wonderful idea, but it will not do the show justice if it does not solve the millions of questions all of us fans have in our hearts.
Spoiler Alert: The next paragraph is my hope for the end of Gilmore Girls which will involve details about the show.
Rory had been proposed to just before her graduation from Yale University. She then decided to turn down the most wonderful man she had ever dated in the entire 7 seasons of the show on her graduation day. This heart-breaking moment was how the show was left and as the revival is around the corner, fans wonder who Rory will end up with. I am hoping she reconnects with her college sweetheart, Logan Huntzberger. He had plans to move to California with Rory and accept a job there after Rory accepted his proposal but then when she turned him down, his future became incredibly vague as well. My hope is that on her tour of the country with Barack Obama’s campaign for his 2008 presidential election, she reconnected with him wherever he may have moved to and hopefully they end up married. However the show’s revival begins with Rory being single and therefore there are no hints as to who she will be with in the end. Will it be Dean, her “married ex boyfriend who” she “lost her virginity to”; Jess, her second high school sweetheart who ran away without a word but realized his mistakes and matured, Logan, the man she was able to change from a “something right away” guy to a boyfriend type of guy who proposed to her in front of all of her friends and family, or will there be a new man in her life who changes everything? Well, GG fans will have to wait for the revival to find out who will steal Rory’s heart. However, the bottom line remains, Gilmore Girls revival will never be enough for the fans; we will never have enough of this amazing show!
