Will Tye made history this past weekend when became the first player from Stony Brook University to play in a NFL game, as he took the field for the New York Giants.
Tye went undrafted in the 2015 NFL draft and shortly after signed with the Giants as an undrafted free agent.
Tye is a six foot two inch tight end who played two years at Stony Brook. He played from 2013-2014 after transferring from Florida State. At Florida State over two years, he only recorded one reception for seven yards in four games.
With Stony Brook, Tye was given more chances to play and as a result of that, he produced. In 23 games, starting in 18 of them, Tye had 1,015 receiving yards, totaled 79 receptions and nine touchdowns. Tye also collected 166 punting yards and 32 kick return yards.
On Sunday’s game against the Buffalo Bills, Tye had the ball thrown to him only once and he dropped the pass. Despite his slow performance, Tye may get more opportunities in the upcoming weeks because the Giants currently lack at the tight end position due to injuries to their veterans.
Will Tye and the Giants’ next opponent is the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday Night Football at 8:30 PM on Sunday, Oct. 11.
