Crying, fighting students, a stolen fire extinguisher and violent humor. I’m Kevin Matyi, and this is the Crime Report for Monday, Sept. 28, to Sunday, Oct. 4, here on Indie Air.
Before this week’s crime, a correction from last week. While the female commuter student from Sep. 21 was issued a summons, Assistant Chief of Stony Brook University Police Neil Farrell said that “no arrest was made.”
- At 10:00 in the morning on Monday, Sept. 28, the Police Daily Crime Log states that the Resident Hall Director of Keller College of Roosevelt Quad reported that “drug paraphernalia” had been found during a health and safety inspection of a female residential student. The student was referred.
- The only crime report on Tuesday, Sept. 29, was a call at 10:30 at night from a Resident Assistant of Toscanini College of Tabler Quad about marijuana. When police arrived on scene, they found the call to be unfounded.
- No crime was reported on Wednesday, Sept. 30.
- Just before 3:00 in the morning on Thursday, Oct. 1, there was a weapons arrest at the Marburger Drive Traffic Circle near Tabler Quad. The male student had a knife in his car, and offered no explanation as to why he was armed, according to Assistant Chief Farrell.
- A male residential student was referred and arrested for petit larceny at Dewey College in Kelly Quad at 2:00 in the morning on Friday, Oct. 2. He was arrested after stealing a fire extinguisher for unknown reasons.
- At 2:30 in the morning on Saturday, Oct. 3, two residential students were arrested at Cardozo College of Roth Quad. According to the Police Daily Crime Log, at least one of the students had been crying when officers approached them, and then the students assaulted the officers, injuring at least one. Assistant Chief Farrell added that it is unknown why they were crying or why they assaulted the officers.
- Two male roommates were referred for fighting before 1:00 in the morning on Sunday, Oct. 4, at Baruch College in Kelly Quad. According to Assistant Chief Farrell, it had started as a joke, but became serious over time. Officers were first notified by a call from a Resident Assistant.
