As midterms and stress come with the dry autumn air, your skin is more fragile than usual. But do not worry, here are some skin care tips for you to incorporate into your beauty regime for the cold season.
1. Stop using soap or foamy facial cleansers
The pH level in most foamy facial cleansers is alkaline, which is opposite of the acidic pH of our skin. The acidic layer of your skin might be neutralized by the alkalinity from these foamy products. Since the acidic layer helps prevent your skin from breaking down in the cold and dry air, using these foamy products can accelerate the process of drying your skin out.
2. Always use tepid water
Many people believe that because hot water opens up your pores, you can clean your face more thoroughly that way. Stop! Hot water dries out your skin. The best temperature for washing your face is tepid, not too hot nor too cold. Tepid water assures that you can wash off all of the dirt on your face but also will not make your skin break down.
3. You need toner
Some people ignore the importance of toner saying that they do not need toner since they do not have oily skin. Toner not only deals with oily skin but also helps to close pores and tighten skin. After cleaning your face, putting on a layer of toner means you put on a layer of protection from heavy makeup damaging your skin and toner also works as a layer of moisturizer.
4. Do not forget to moisturize
I cannot emphasize enough how important it is to moisturize your skin after cleansing your face. Your skin will become extra vulnerable in face of cold weather. Moisturizer is the most efficient solution to keep your skin nice and smooth during the dry and cold season. Also, do not forget to keep a small portion of your favorite moisturizer cream with you, because you never know when and where you might need to apply more moisturizer on your skin.
5. Get enough sleep and eat healthy
No matter how many products you apply on your face, if you do not eat and sleep well, your skin will break down anyway. Eat fruits and vegetables every day to get enough vitamins, especially vitamin C, which not only keeps your immune system strong, but also keeps your skin smooth and free from acne. Sleeping well ensures your metabolism functions properly and discharges toxins in your body.
Overall, I wish you have a warm winter and do not forget to take care of your skin this skin-vulnerable season.
