A Stony Brook University undergraduate student died yesterday at Stony Brook University Hospital from related injuries the student suffered from due to a fall, according to President Samuel L. Stanley Jr.’s office.
University Police discovered the student lying “unresponsive” at Stimson College in Roosevelt Quad and was immediately transported to the university hospital, it added.
A campus-wide email sent from the President’s Office notified university students and faculty at approximately 11:00 p.m. The email also stated information for facilities available to grieving or uncomfortable students.
“Losing a member of our campus community to such an unexpected and tragic circumstance is difficult,” Stanley said, “and we know it is particularly so for those who are invested in the person’s academic experience, success and personal development.”
The investigation is unfolding with the help of the Suffolk County Police Department and University Police, however “all reports seem to indicate that there was no criminality involved,” the email stated.
According to the email, the student’s family has been notified, and additional details regarding funeral services have not been determined.
