Samsung has officially announced the date for the release of the Galaxy S8 and S8+. The phones will be available to purchase on April 21.
Although Samsung is one of the top cellphone brand names alongside Apple, consumers are wary due to the company’s exploding Note 7 incident earlier this year.
“Samsung has a large following all over the word,” Marisol Del Valle, a graphic designer who currently uses an older model Samsung phone, said. “I think if they stay pretty transparent with whether or not they built the newest versions to alter the negative, then people will trust the brand.”
Lee Byung-Chul founded Samsung in South Korea. Initially, Samsung started out as a trading company. In the late 1960s, the company entered the electronic industry. By 2012, Samsung became the world’s biggest mobile phone producer. But in 2016, the company went under fire for multiple reports of the Galaxy Note 7 exploding. Shortly after, the company announced a recall for the phones.
Vanyha Rose, a college student from Brooklyn College, currently has the Galaxy S5. She is not worried about the new phones exploding. “Samsung always delivers and it was only a matter of time before they ran into a hiccup,” Rose said. “They made sure to rectify the situation with a recall and free replacement, [so] I definitely know that, they’ve taken all the necessary precautions before releasing a new gadget to the scrutiny of the public.”
Samsung is promoting the release of two different sizes of the same phone. The Galaxy S8 stands with a 5.8″ screen, while the Galaxy S8+ has about a 0.4″ difference, at 6.2″. The size is not the only thing special about this phone. Unlike many of Samsung’s past phones, the disappearance of the home button gives the phone an entirely new look and provides consumers with a different experience with the phone.
The colors that consumers can choose from are Midnight Black, Orchid Gray, Coral Blue, Arctic Silver and Maple Gold.
This phone is also giving Samsung the chance to introduce their new artificial intelligence called Bixby. Similar to Amazon’s Alexa or Apple’s Siri, Bixby is an interactive intelligence that can talk, perform commands, remind about important dates and more to help in the user’s everyday life.
The release of the Galaxy S8 and S8+ will definitely be a test to keep the company’s reputation. Despite the controversy, fans of the brand are still staying beside Samsung and are excited for the release of Galaxy S8 and S8+.
