(Left to Right) Hanna Marin, Aria Montgomery, Emily Fields and Spencer Hastings arrive at Big A’s twisted Doll House after being falsely accused of a crime and kidnapped from a prisoner transport van. Pretty Little Liars Season 5 finale.

Fans of the popular ABC show “Pretty Little Liars” waited patiently for the reveal of the mastermind behind the deadly and terrorizing games inflicted upon five teenage girls. The identity of the culprit who left the signature red “A” on everything he destroyed, was finally revealed to the public.
Well, sort of.
For five seasons, viewers have followed the lives of Aria Montgomery, Spencer Hastings, Emily Fields, Hanna Marin and Alison DiLaurentis who was presumed dead during the first half of the series. These unlucky girls were taunted and harassed by the mysterious hooded figure through text messages and even letters that “A” managed to embed inside one of the girls’ tooth. It seemed as if “A” was everywhere and had all the resources to track each of their personal lives to harm the ones they held close to their hearts.
Aria, Spencer, Hanna and Emily’s lives turned upside down once they started spending time with the queen of mean girls, Alison throughout high school. Alison made enemies with her peers and adults as well. She even managed to have affairs with quite a few older gentlemen in order to advance her secret and selfish desires.
When Alison went missing, everyone believed that her body was the one buried in the backyard of her old house. What Alison’s friends did not know was that she was actually getting harassed by the same mysterious “A” figure that ended up torturing the four remaining girls after Alison’s funeral.
“A” spared no expense when it came to threatening to expose the young girls’ darkest secretes and those of their parents. When it turned out that Alison was actually still alive, “A”‘s tactics became worse. Even when they traveled to another town or country, “A” made sure to wreak havoc on each of their lives.
What the girls did not know was that “A” use to actually be one of their very own peers and Hanna’s best friend, Mona Vanderwaal. Mona had a deep hatred for Alison who never showed Mona a moment of kindness a day in her life. However, when Mona got locked up in an asylum, a new and even deadlier “A” took over.
When it came time for the season five finale to reveal who the big “A” was, it was a huge disappointment. It turns out Alison has another brother that no one knew about and it even seems like the brother, Charles, may be a twin to Alison’s older brother Jason DiLaurentis, but we are not quite sure.
Since Charles was never mentioned in the series, it does not make sense why he would have any interest in ruining the lives of five girls including his sister and why he would leave a trail of dead bodies including his own mother’s. “Pretty Little Liars” has a tendency of making one believe someone is “A” and then the next second they are not. It was believed that Aria’s previous lover and former teacher Ezra was “A,” Spencer’s boyfriend Toby was suspected to be “A,” as well as his half sister Jenna. Jenna’s best friend and lover was even believed to at least have been associated with “A” and the list goes on.
Hopefully season six will answer the questions that plague my mind, however the show continues to frustrate me. Did I mention how Charles’ face was not even shown except for a photo and video of when he was a child? We do not even know what he sounds like. I will continue to tune in since I have invested so much time into the show and am dying to find out why Charles is causing so much drama.
