The HBO series, “Insecure,” left fans broken after airing the second season finale on Sunday, September 10. However, fans can now continue their love for the show through the new soundtrack playlist available on Spotify and Apple Music that includes tracks from the show.
“Insecure” captured many hearts across the country for its quirky yet hilarious take on the life of modern black women. The series was created by one of the main stars on the show, Issa Rae and Larry Wilmore in 2015. It has continued to captivate fans with the lives of Issa and her best friend, Molly, as they encounter awkward yet very relatable moments as black women in today’s society.
The series empowers black culture not only through their wide range of characters of African descent, who we sometimes love and hate but also through the music selection for the show.
From your modern day hip-hop artists, like Travis Scott, to R&B and soul artists, like Frank Ocean, this playlist takes you on an emotional roller coaster as you can start feeling mellow but ready to “turn up” when the pace starts escalating.
Personally, the whole tracklist is full of great songs that can please any style of music lover. Whether you enjoy a slow-paced song or something that can be best described as “twerking music,” the “Insecure playlist” has it all. But if you want to know the songs that I would recommend, here are some of my favorites.
1. U-RITE by THEY
This song has addictive beat that plays in the background that will have automatically have you dancing, even if you are not a dancer. Also, the chorus will have you constantly replaying the phrase “U-RITE” in your head.
2. Biking by Frank Ocean
The song starts off with a rap by Jay-Z and then enters smooth singing by Frank Ocean. The beat is very low tempo and relaxing. This song was used to close off the season finale, and I think it fits perfectly with the events that followed.
3. Supermodel by SZA
The uncanny beat can be off-putting at first but when SZA starts singing, her voice perfectly fits with the beat. Her voice adds a nice flavor to the playlist so it does not feel too overpowered with just male artists.
4. Caught by St. Beauty
St. Beauty is another great addition to the playlist. These two ladies’ voices are calming and this is a great song for people who are not into the fast-paced music but still have a great beat.
Fans looking forward to a new chapter opening for Insecure, but as they wait they can sit back and jam to this amazing playlist.
