To many, October means autumn leaves and pumpkin spice lattes. To Halloween lovers, October means haunted houses and costumes.
Halloween is the one day in the year where it’s acceptable to take candy from strangers and walk around pretending to be someone else.
Over the years, Halloween has become less about scary and more about trendy. It’s a day where you can dress up in something that you may not necessarily have the confidence to pull off on a day-to-day basis. Or, it might just be an opportunity to poke fun at someone in pop culture.
Since you only have one night to be whoever or whatever you want, you might as well pretend to be someone hot or something trendy. This year, Google trends has gathered shopping data and released a list of the top trending Halloween costumes of 2013.
Minions have once again crept into the hearts and minds of America following the 2013 release of the animated film sequel Despicable Me 2. The film grossed over $362 million in the United States alone since its July release, according to the Box Office Mojo, making it no surprise why the spunky yellow henchmen have made the list.
Crime drama Breaking Bad made headlines last month when it premiered its final episode of the series. Fans across the nation tuned in to say goodbye to Walter White once and for all. However, Google trends show that the world may not have been ready to say farewell. It looks like Walter White will continue to live on—at least for Halloween night.
Halloween 2013 may be a night of duck calls, not howls. Reality TV stars the Robertson family has made it on to the list and are bringing their camouflage along with them. Duck Dynasty premiered its fourth season in August to 11.8 million viewers, making the show the most-watched nonfiction cable telecast in history. If viewership is any indication of costume sales, then there may be close to 12 million Uncle Si’s roaming the streets on Oct. 31.
Batman fans went crazy when it was announced that Academy Award winning actor Ben Affleck would depict the character of Batman in the upcoming film Batman vs. Superman. Fans signed petitions in protest of the casting decision—however, no one could have guessed that the fans felt they could do a better job. Keep your eyes peeled because Batman has left Gotham City to fight crime on the streets of a city near you.
Miley Cyrus’ infamous twerk at the MTV Video Music Awards in August has caused her to become one of the most talked about celebrities of 2013. The scandalous performance continues to be a topic of conversation over a month later. It’s no wonder why America’s breaking out the nude-colored latex and foam finger in preparation for this years Halloween.
