Make your life in SBU more efficient with these eight apps!
1. SBU Transit
Stony Brook University has its own buses for students to take and if you do not want to be late to class or even run to catch the inner loop bus, you should download SBUTransit app. With this, you will be able to real-time track the school bus on your phone. On the app, each bus is represented by a different colored dot, and users will know where the bus is at by looking for the dot.
2. Stony Brook Campus Card
The Campus Card app allows you to keep track of your meal plan status and add money to your Wolfie Wallet. To track your meal plan, you need to create a new account. By doing so, you can see all of the transactions you made and the locations you spend your dinning dollars. The location function allows you to see where on campus or off campus you can spend your dinning dollars, Wolfie Wallet or both.
3. Blackboard Learn
Do not have your laptop with you and want to check your assignments or grade? The Blackboard app offers you access to your blackboard, whenever and wherever. With the Blackboard Learn application you could login with your SBU NetID and all of your classes will be listed on the screen. For more information about the course you need to click on the specific course and you will see the all of the available function bars that you can see on the Blackboard Learn site.
4. Bite by Sodexo
Starting during the Fall 2016 semester, the university’s dining collaborated with Sodexo and aimed to provide food with better quality. The Bite app allows students to check menus of different dinning places on campus. The dinning menu changes every day and it might vary from dining to dining and from one time period to another. Figuring out what food they have in the dinning will save a lot of your disappointment from seeing food that you don’t like in the dinning.
If you are a student who is looking for on-campus employment, the Handshake app would be a good choice for you. On Handshake, the search engine is really customizable. You can filter to only see companies of specific fields, jobs that matches your major and the area the job or the company is at. You could also upload your resume on the website and click apply now when you find the ideal job you want. Your resume will automatically be sent to the employer with the application.
As the ultimate Starbucks fan, the most exciting moment would be when you are told that there is now a Starbucks truck on campus. The Starbucks app not only allows you to add money to your account, but it will generate a secure QR code so you do not have to carry cash or your card every time you go to Starbucks. The cashier only needs to scan the code on your phone to complete your purchase.
7. LIRR TrainTime
If you want to go to New York City during the weekends, TrainTime app allows you to check the Long Island Rail Road schedule on your phone. You will no longer miss the train or need to get up early to wait at the train station. By entering the beginning and last stations of your journey and entering a time period, you will be able to see all of the available trains you can take and how long they will be.
There may be a time when you want to order food with your friends but you do not have cash on you, and the ATM is too far away from your dorm. Venmo offers free online transfers. You can just type in your friend’s contact information and transfer money to them on your phone. When you receive too much money on your Venmo account, you can transfer it anytime to your bank account. It usually takes two or three business days, but there is no transaction fee!
