The time is coming, kids! School will be over, finals will be a thing of the past and you can finally say hello to three beautiful months of summer fun. When you are not spending time laying out on the beach getting that golden glow or hanging out with friends late into the evening, why not take a trip to the movies and see one of the blockbusters set to hit the silver screen this summer?
Comedy, action, animation — you name it, and there are a few options to choose from. Here are seven films you must see this summer:
1. ‘Pitch Perfect 2’ – May 15
Fat Amy and the Barden Bellas are at it again in this sequel to the 2013 hit “Pitch Perfect.” This time around, the group finds themselves competing in an international competition that no American team has ever won before, following a humiliating performance at Lincoln Center.
2. ‘Jurassic World’ – June 12
The fourth installment in the “Jurassic Park” film series, this movie stars Chris Pratt as Owen Grady, a staff member at dinosaur-themed Jurassic World. Grady, along with a group of scientists, must capture a hybrid, mutant dinosaur before it causes damage to the park and wreaks havoc on its inhabitants.
3. ‘Inside Out’ – June 19
Have you ever wondered what it would be like to see your emotions in action…inside of your head? In this Pixar film, a young girl must adjust to her new life in San Francisco after her father gets a new job. As a result, the girl’s emotions find themselves in an uproar, and they must help her navigate her way through a new town, a new school and new friends.
4. ‘Ant-Man’ – July 17
Paul Rudd stars as petty criminal Scott Lang who must help his mentor, Dr. Hank Pym (Michael Douglas), in guarding the Ant-Man technology, which allows its users to decrease in size but increase in strength. Whether to keep the Ant-Man substance out of the hands of criminals, or to save the world, Paul Rudd’s character is on the case.
5. ‘Paper Towns’ – July 24
Everyone remembers last summer’s hit “The Fault in Our Stars,” based off of John Green’s novel of the same name. Well prepare for another summer hit because a book-to-movie adaptation of his novel, “Paper Towns,” is scheduled to make the big screen in July! Nat Wolff and Cara Delevingne star as two high school students and neighbors who go on an adventure together to seek revenge on Delevingne’s ex-boyfriend. However, the following day, she goes missing and leaves behind clues that Wolff must decipher in order to find her.
6. ‘The Fantastic Four’ – August 7
After four people teleport to an alternate universe, they are left with a number of new abilities and physical forms. Miles Teller stars as Mister Fantastic; Michael B. Jordan stars as the Human Torch; Kate Mara stars as the Invisible Woman, and Jamie Bell stars as The Thing. In turn, the group must learn to work together as a team to save the Earth from destruction.
7. ‘The Man from U.N.C.L.E.’ – August 14
Based on the 1964 television series of the same name, “The Man From U.N.C.L.E.” is set against the backdrop of the 1960’s Cold War. Henry Cavill and Armie Hammer star as two agents who team up to stop a mysterious international crime organization that is trying to acquire nuclear weapons and technology.
