Looking for things to do for the Halloween season? Why not take a night off and watch one of these spine-chilling movies?
Nothing like a good old serial killer story to get you started. Michael Myers was institutionalized after killing his sister and now stalks the streets every Halloween night to do a little killing. With eight movies in the “Halloween” series, you’ll never get tired of Michael’s elaborate killing sprees.
Imagine leaving your physical body each time you go to sleep. Now imagine a demon just waiting to take it over. “Insidious” follows the Lambert family as they try and reach their unconscious son, whose spirit is exploring another realm, to prevent a demonic entity from taking over his empty vessel of a body.
If gore is not your thing, then steer clear of Leatherface. When a group of teens go out into the country, they become the main course of a cannibalistic family’s dinner. Being chased by a killer with a chainsaw who wears human skin like a mask does not sound like a fun vacation.
4) “The Exorcist“
Living in Washington D.C., an actress notices that her daughter is changing — and not in the way you’d expect. This is one 12-year-old with an attitude problem…or maybe she’s just possessed by a demon. Call the priest. It’s time for an exorcism.
5) “Paranormal Activity“
Don’t knock this one just yet. In a home movie gone bad, a young couple find out the hard way that there’s a seemingly-demonic presence that comes alive when they sleep. Later on, it’s made clear that this spirit’s got a bone to pick with the female character, Katie.
6) “The Conjuring“
There’s always some sort of creepy backstory behind an old, run-down farmhouse. However, the Perron family does things right when they begin to notice beings from the other side have taken over. They hire paranormal investigators who unearth a satanic past linked with the house.
Based on a true story, here’s a movie that’s set right down the road, about 45 minutes away from this campus. When a new couple and their children move into a house where the previous family was murdered, they get quite an eerie welcome.
8) “The Unborn“
What happens when one twin is never born? “The Unborn” follows Casey Beldon as she figures out that her twin brother, who died in utero, is taking out his anger on his living twin sister. Creepy children, stories of Nazi experiments and possessed old men. What could be better?
This is another “based on a true story” horror movie where this poor family buys a house with tons of paranormal history. Living in a transformed funeral home where demonic ceremonies were held will sign up the Campbell family for some pretty intense poltergeists.
Speaking of poltergeists: Here’s the last — and possibly the best — movie on this list. Ghosts seem to love messing with the living, and the living never cease to be amused. Whether they’re stacking up chairs, playing with electrical appliances or even kidnapping little girls, ghosts are just a blast to have around the house.
